So, finally, after 5 days of 4:30am to 9pm days, we get a break. a day in which we can catch up on data that needs to be crunched, pictures to be downloaded (from cameras), and blogs to be written. finally we got to sleep in a little and enjoy a slower day. we've left C18A and headed for Iceberg Alley, a stretch of ocean that many smaller icebergs seem to congregate. the goal here is to learn how a collective minefield of smaller bergs effect the ecosystem of the area. most of these smaller bergs came from big bergs (like C18A) and contain little pieces of terrestrial material. it's pretty need to see ice chucks with rocks and pebbles and even finer sand embedded in them.
beyond that, it was pretty much a day of seeing many birds, some minke whales, and some lone penguins (most trying to get the highest point of the berg they were sitting on). it's time to get rested up, because the next day will be a brutal 3am to 6pm (hopefully but maybe later) day.
till next time!
:D
