Well, we're back at C18 after the requisite steam of 18-20hr. this included the final test of the MOCNESS nets (nets catch jellies and krill and other zooplankton critters). Upon getting to the berg, the barometer started to drop precipitously. as the barometer drop, the seas swelled. we were getting pitch and roll of +3 to -3. that means it makes walking that much harder. good thing we weren't carrying anything. up on the bridge, the motion of the pitch and roll was enhance, making it a bit of a wild ride. because of the 30 knot winds and the larger swell, all deployments of instruments over the side of the ship was cancelled. the only thing we could do is to do some physical oceanography...aka surface mapping of the waters at two points relative to the berg. a wild ride made even wilder when the bost was going aginst the wind and the waves.
thank goodness the seas calmed down by this morning and things are looking better as the barometer started climibng.
till next time!
ps. the patient that was transferred off the NBP is doing well on the LMG and 0n his way back to Punta arenas.
