As the last 48 hrs (or less) proved that the system does work for emergencies, my roomie was taken to King George Island, the closest Antarctic base (belonging to Chile) that has an air strip that can land a twin otter for the med evac. She was evaluated there by the doc there and was in stable condition. The plane left shortly after the evaluation and took off. The point of no return was at 10am this morning and the word was that all systems were a go. She should be in PA now (local time to be 3:30pm) and in the OR. My thoughts are constantly with her. It can’t be helped. She left some stuff in the room. I do miss her company. I get constant updates from Eric.

ken and lily, cutting ice
Ray of Light #2
The long line that was frozen in the sea ice was just pulled up at 2:30pm today, completely intact. Lily (boating coordinator) and Ken (Amber’s replacement Instrument Tech) did an awesome job in coordinating everything. The whole station pulled together and did awesome. It was definitely awesome.

The LMG is coming back after the successful med evac. This pretty much means I’m heading out to sea to do a water collection. Actually, not a collection but multiple. we'll see how that goes. :D
