There and Back Again…..this time on the LMG

I'm writing this before the crossing. Given my time on the RVIB NBP was
an extremely smooth ride, I'm a little weary of the R/V Lawrence M. Gould
(our transport boat to Palmer Station). I've heard many horror stories of
folks on the LMG in the Drake Passage. I'm not surprised by that, given
that it is one of the roughest seas in the world. All weather patterns
funnel betwixt the southern tip of Argentina and the Antarctic Peninsula.
Great, I guess. I think the anticipation for these rough seas will
probably make me sicker than the actual ride we'll see how that goes.
In a way, traveling this much is not as bad. The flights can be shorter.
:D always, eh? If we can just have a space aged transporter, then life
would be pretty gosh darn easy. The 1.5 days we spent in PA was pretty
nice.
What I did love about this port call was the fact that we didn't need to
set up a lab on board!! I'm totally pysched about that. I got to explore
PA at a leisurely pace. Then on board the LMG, we're not doing any
science except talking about it. Movie times prevail. We had our first
movie on the board…."the big lebowski" and some post movie episodes of the
"flight of the conchords"
Well, we'll see how the real crossing goes. I'm probably be posting from
Palmer Station next time! Yay for real interweb.
