The Day the Ship leaves......5/31/2008

well, it is the day the ship leaves and the marbles i've lost are on it's way to Palmer Station.  the big mad search of the boat, the warehouse, the boat, the other boat pretty much yielded the conclusions that my important reagents are on it's way to Palmer Station for my next stint on the ice.  nuts.  There was talk at first to  pack up an analytical scale, divert our course, shuttle me and the scale and some other on a zodiac out to some place to pick the chems up.  nuts!  But that was scrapped cuz this is only cruise 1 of 2.    we just have to make sure the chems make it out for the real science trip.  well, now there is nothing I can really do about it.  so i pretty much resigned myself to collecting samples and helping others out.  it's a total bummer that this huge arse hole that i fell into happened BEFORE we left port.  Then some BS about berthing took me away from a lab mate and put me in a room that wasn't ideal.  oh well, what can you do.  i guess i lost two battles yesterday.  I was so frustrated yesterday that i definitely was a smart @ss.  well, folks will have to deal with it.

anyhoo, last night was the first night on the ship.  it was pretty quiet but that will change as soon as we get on our way.  earplugs galore!  rack space is small, the rooms are decent, the ship is clean, and the food is ok....so far....we still got 30 days to go.

there are some of the most spectacular sunrises and sunsets.  i mean it is winter so the sun rises happen at 8am and the sunset happen at 4pm.  i'm totally loving my carhartt work clothes.  i have a feeling i'll be living in them.  if i can climb in the carhartt bibs, i would.

this of course is the last ditch effort to read about the world before we head out.  email will be sparse, but we can still do it.  that means i'll still post my blabbings.

till next time!
